One of "our brightest start-ups" - Prime Minister Theresa May

Gerry Hodgson, Nov 2016

I'm in India this month as part of a high-profile Trade Mission to New Delhi, Pune and Kochi. The British Prime Minister, Theresa May, opened the Mission with a drinks reception at the High Commission and described Cascade3d and the ten other companies taking part as the UK's "brightest start-ups".

Innovate UK Chief Executive Ruth McKernan congratulated us on being part of the trip and said: “It is vital that UK innovators look to engage globally in developing new partnerships and market opportunities. The size of the opportunity from the Indian smart cities market is immense with £24 billion investment expected across 100 cities over the next five to seven years.  UK small businesses are very well placed to take advantage of this market.”

Looking after the elderly and vulnerable is a global issue.  We are using the very latest IoT technology and big data analytics to design healthcare pathways that will integrate into smart city infrastructures. So, I’m looking forward to meeting smart city planners, senior healthcare executives, strategic innovators and scaling partners in India to help us bring IoT technology to life.

As well as taking part in the Trade Mission I am also recruiting staff for our new office in Bengaluru. The team here will play a long term strategic role in the future of smart health - not just in India and the UK but across the world.

TSA conference 2016

Clare Flanagan, Oct 2016

We were at the TSA conference earlier this month to discuss ‘Connected Care, Connected Homes and Connected Communities’.  The conference brought together organisational leaders and audiences across government, health, social care, housing, home care, industry, the third sector and more.

Some of our highlights were the inspirational Molly Watt, who talked about using assistive technology and design for those with sensory impairment. She came to visit the Cascade3d stand to find out more about what we're doing to help.  We also loved the keynote address by Professor Eddie Obeng - whose mission was to get us all thinking differently about transformation because "sticking wings on a caterpillar does not make it a butterfly".

Becoming a Dementia Friend

Dementia touches the lives of millions of people across the UK.

Dementia Friends was set up by the Alzheimer's Society to tackle the stigma and lack of understanding that means many people with dementia experience loneliness and social exclusion. Whether you attend a face-to-face Session or watch the online video, Dementia Friends is about learning more about dementia and the small ways you can help. From telling friends about Dementia Friends to visiting someone you know living with dementia, every action counts.

If you would like to join me and become a Dementia Friend please visit the website and sign up.

To find out more about how our Connected Care platform analyses the data that identifies the early signs of dementia and enables people affected by the disease to live in their own homes for longer, please contact us.

Connected Health

Gerry Hodgson, Jan 2016

I'm at the University of Manchester today for an Active and Healthy Ageing Conference hosted by the Greater Manchester Academic Health Science Network.

I am particularly interested in finding out more about how Chris Todd – Programme Director of the ProFouND Consortium - is using ICT to prevent falls among elderly people.  It's a fantastic opportunity for leisure centres and fitness professionals to get involved and make a real difference to the lives of older people in our society.

The Prevention of Falls Network for Dissemination (ProFouND) is an EC funded initiative dedicated to the dissemination and implementation of best practice in falls prevention across Europe. ProFouND aims to influence policy and to increase awareness of falls and innovative prevention programmes, amongst health and social care authorities, the commercial sector, NGOs and the general public. Through this work ProFouND will facilitate communities of interest and disseminate the work of the network to target groups across the EU.
